Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 Maintenance Projects as of December 16, 2019
Routine maintenance:

  • Ditch Maintenance: crews maintain approximately 281 miles of earthen and concrete channels within DD7 boundaries from March until late November or early December. During the winter months, these crews cut back trees and brush encroaching on DD7 channels.
  • Herbicide Department: assist in maintaining drainage channels by applying herbicide to new growth in the concrete channels as well as applying herbicide to the earthen channels. The crew also repairs fencing and cable barriers throughout the district.
  • Pump Station Maintenance: Daily inspections and general maintenance and repairs to the Districts 20-pump stations. All stations are inspected daily including weekends and holidays.
  • Hurricane Levee Crew: Maintains and repairs the Districts 36 miles of earthen levee, concrete & steel sheet pile floodwall and closure structures throughout the levee system.

Construction Department:
Pear Ridge Main # 2: Repaired approximately 130’ of damaged concrete sidewall. Removed and replaced with new concrete. (Port Arthur).
Lateral A3: Construction department removed approximately 50’ of damaged concrete sidewall and replaced with new. Reset a 30” RCP discharge pipe to proper flow line and recapped headwall. (Groves)
Main B Canal: Repaired approximately a 300’ sluff off on earthen section of the channel. Damaged area was removed, recompacted and re-sloped to grade.
Crane Bayou Main: Worked in conjunction with TX Dot to repair damage caused by discharge pipe entering the Crane Bayou channel. DD7 crews reset the pipe and re-poured the headwall. (Groves)
Rodair Gully Lateral 4: Installed 2-24” pipes to re-establish the crossing where Lateral 4 enters into Rodair Gully.
Rodair Gully Lateral 6: Re-set sunken discharge pipe entering Lat. 6. The crews reset the pipe to the proper flow line and made repairs to the concrete wall surrounding the pipe.
Rodair Gully Lateral 6A: Redirected entrance of roadside ditch into lateral 6A to improve flow. The channel was re-cut so that the storm water entering the channel will go with the flow rather than entering perpendicular.
Upper Johns Gully: Cleared trees and regraded approx. 400 ft. of earthen channel.
Non-District Channel: DD7 construction crew removed trees and regraded an unidentified channel at the end of Oak North that enters DD7’s Rodair Gully Lateral 6A to improve drainage in the Forest Central Subdivision.
HFPL: Repaired approximately 150’ section of levee at station 1509+00. The compromised section was removed and replaced with new material. The repair consisted of 8” lifts compacted to 6” with 3 successful compaction test per lift. Once the repairs were complete, the bare section of levee was hydro mulched to ensure proper vegetation growth.
HFPL: Repaired approximately 100’ section of levee at station 1365+00. The compromised section was removed and replaced with new clay material. The repair consisted of 8” lifts compacted to 6” with 3 successful compaction test per lift. Once the repairs were complete, the bare section of levee was hydro mulched to ensure proper vegetation growth.
